Picture the scene. So here I am, sitting down to write a piece on the failure of CRM for ‘Argent’ (the strategy magazine of the financial services forum). I am 543 words in, and have just used the word ‘revulsion’ to express my reaction to the transaction-obsessed, relationship-crushing, humanly dismissive world of financial marketers.

I pause for inspiration and open my spam email folder to see the following has arrived (see below in bold). Unbe-*******-leivable. On what basis do these psychopaths expect to build a business. What future loyalty value is there in a relationship that starts like this??

Hiya friends,

With most of you all going on holiday soon, I just thought this website my

boyfriend emailed me about would be useful! Looks like you can save loads on

international phone calls.

Hi Helen,

I have just been told about this website where it tells you how to make

cheap phone calls, it looks pretty good and we don’t even need to register

with them. I will be able to call you every day when you are on holiday as it

will only cost me the same as ringing you when you are here!

The website is here: http://www.pd-dial.com

Anyway, must get on with more work, take care babe

Steve

This is scamspam. This is the Nigerian export con of email marketing. Faking a personal relationship to generate a transaction. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. May their marketing agency rot in hell – forever.

I’m going for a walk.
