Interesting to see two megatrends coming together in the form ofSocial Outsourcing., as highlighted by Ajay Sharma…whose blog is a real gem within the outsourcing space.

Ajay highlights the emergence of fair trade outsourcing…as spotlighted in a note from Richard Heeks of Manchester University’s Development Informatics Group.

“India’s Kerala State government has led the way as part of its “Kudumbashree” initiative. This has facilitated the creation of IT sector enterprises that are owned cooperatively by groups of previously-unemployed women from below-poverty-line families. By late 2005, there were 151 enterprises undertaking outsourced IT training work, mainly for public schools; 80 units undertaking outsourced data entry work, such as digitisation of government records; and 3 enterprises assembling and maintaining PCs for use in government offices.”

This is just the tip a much bigger iceberg. In countries lie South Africa we are starting to see much richer win:win relationships between buyers, outsourcers and location hosts.

Making these social accountabilities explicit, and valuable is the next stage…
